1. Slower waves than the heartbeat

The heart beats dozens of times a minute; breath is slower still. Yet beyond both, the tone of the blood vessels themselves gently rises and falls — contracting a touch, then easing, on a cycle of roughly ten seconds. This is the vasomotor wave, part of the body's self-regulation, nudging blood flow up or down where needed.

The body is never still; it is constantly making tiny adjustments we simply can't feel.

2. Why it's worth knowing

Because it reminds us of two things. First, the body's state is fluid — what you feel as "tight" or "loose" in the moment may just be that instant's wave, not a permanent state. Second, when someone says "I can feel a rhythm," the feeling may not be wrong, but it may correspond to this normal vessel wave rather than some special "energy" or "fluid flow."

3. A often-confused term: the "craniosacral rhythm"

You may have seen the term "craniosacral rhythm" (sometimes written CST or CRI) in articles or treatment descriptions. The claim: cerebrospinal fluid pulses in a fixed rhythm between the skull and the sacrum, and a trained hand can "listen" to that rhythm and judge where the body needs work.

但從科學的角度,有幾個點一直沒被穩定證實,我們在另一篇〈「顱薦骨節律」我為什麼不那樣寫〉"Why I don't write it that way about the craniosacral rhythm"會展開談。 The story sounds appealing. But from a scientific view, several points have never been reliably confirmed — we go deeper in another piece, 〈「顱薦骨節律」我為什麼不那樣寫〉"Why I don't write it that way about the craniosacral rhythm". Here's the core sentence: to this day, that "independent, instrument-reproducible" craniosacral rhythm has not been stably observed by science.

4. What the "rise and fall" under the hand likely is

When a practitioner rests a hand lightly on the body, they do feel a subtle, slow rise and fall. The more scientifically sound explanation: it comes from vessel-tone waves (the vasomotor wave above), plus the tiny surface tremor of breath and heartbeat. These are real and measurable; bundling them into "one mysterious fluid rhythm" is a different matter.

Where I stand

I'd rather trust what's measurable. Gentle relaxation and relief are real; but calling the rise-and-fall under a finger an "objective, measurable rhythm" tied to a specific problem — that step I won't take. For you it means: you don't have to pay to chase "feeling a mysterious rhythm."

5. What this means for your daily life

Plainly: this inner micro-rhythm can't be controlled by "will," nor should it be treated as some "indicator." But it leaves a useful, grounded reminder — the body naturally self-regulates over time. What you can do is stop forcing it to stay braced: regular movement, enough rest, and the occasional real release of the shoulders and breath let the body drift toward the looser side on its own.

Don't treat the moment's feeling as the verdict. Tight or loose may just be that instant's wave.
Relaxation is worth doing, but needn't be mysticized. What works is usually "giving the body a chance to self-regulate," not an inaudible rhythm.
When a session sells a "rhythm" as absolute, ask: "has this been measured?"
