One thing first: this is for understanding, not a substitute for seeing a doctor, and it is not a diagnosis. If you are on medication or under regular care, please don't stop or change that based on what you read here. For any health concern, see a licensed medical professional first.
1. Classify first, then talk frequency
The same question — "how often should I come?" — has a different answer for each person. My habit is to place you in the right category first, then talk about frequency; and step one of "placing you" is the 10–15 minute assessment on a visit, to see clearly where the tightness comes from. So I won't give a fixed frequency over the phone or by message — before seeing you, any number would just be a guess. Classify first, then act; reversing that order is where it gets unsteady.
2. When it came on sharply and recently
This type often eases noticeably after just 1–2 visits. These people don't really have a "how often" problem — once you feel comfortable and daily movement no longer catches, you can stop coming. Handling the present situation well doesn't have to mean regular return visits; some come back only much later, which is perfectly normal.
3. Most people — not severe, just starting
Most people fall into this group. My suggestion is twice a week at first (that is, every three to four days). Usually it takes about two weeks — four visits — to reach a preliminary conclusion. After those four, I can confirm three things: whether the approach suits you, whether the earlier judgment was right, and roughly how often to come after. Most people can clearly feel by this stage whether the direction is right.
4. When the discomfort is more pronounced and persistent
When the discomfort is more pronounced and persistent, it may take two to three visits a week. Again, after two weeks I hope to give you a clear read; if the situation is more complex, two weeks may not be enough and a few more visits are needed to settle it. A higher frequency is to give the body a chance to settle first — not to keep you coming indefinitely.
5. After two months, if you still need to come regularly
If, after about two months (roughly 8–16 visits), you still need to come regularly and long-term, it means this is a state that needs our ongoing support. In that case I'd suggest considering a package of several sessions bought together — on average it works out more economical, and is more relaxed than booking each time on the spot. Whether to do that is entirely your call; no one will rush you.
Why I don't just give a "standard frequency"
Because everyone's tightness comes from somewhere different: some from sitting long, some from posture, some from compensation elsewhere. Assessing first and watching the body's response over a few visits beats a fixed formula. The point of the first 3–4 visits isn't "using up the count" — it's confirming the direction is right. Get that right, and the later frequency is easy to discuss. This is also why, on a visit, I spend time finding the source first, rather than working right away.
6. Some situations — check with a physician first
Talking about frequency has one premise: that you're someone we can help. Sort yourself into the right group below first — this, too, is part of "classify first":
This group is usually where we can help: shows up only after long sitting or standing and eases once you move; about the same for months, worse when busy and better on holiday; uncomfortable only at a certain angle or height, fine once you avoid it.
This group — see a licensed medical professional first: numbness or weakness that keeps worsening, spreading day by day; pain that started only after an injury (a fall, crash or impact); night waking from pain that no change of position eases, or with fever or unexplained weight loss. These are the body saying "something is being damaged" — outside what we help with.
If you'd like to find where it actually starts
Book a session. What we do isn't massage — it's American-style chiropractic bodywork: we spend 10–15 minutes finding where it starts, then talk about how to ease it; the force is set, not judged by pain. By appointment only, one person at a time, never rushed.
