What this series is about

There's a familiar scene in the clinic: the practitioner has you lie prone, walks to the foot of the table, looks at your two feet for a moment, sometimes straightens and bends a leg, then says "this side is a little short." This series answers that scene — what's being observed is not bone length, but the current state of your nervous system.

It won't teach you to adjust yourself, and it won't tell you what to do about a sore spot. It does one thing: explain the reasoning behind "you lying prone while the practitioner examines your feet" — why a few minutes of postural load quiets the stabilizers, why ligaments behave more like sensors, and why ankle angle changes reflex strength.

One honest note up front

The evidence behind this analysis is uneven. Some comes from rigorous experiments, some is inference from mechanism, some is decades of practitioners' consensus. The original author herself wrote that leg-length reactivity cannot be reliably reproduced in an isolated lab. So each part below marks "how far the evidence goes."
